Remote online notarization is genuinely useful, and it fails in one predictable way. Nearly every wasted RON appointment comes from the same cause, so it is worth putting first rather than in the small print.

The recipient decides whether they will accept it. Florida law permitting an online notarization does not oblige anyone to take it. Title companies, lenders, county recorders, government agencies, schools, and foreign authorities all set their own rules, and some still require wet ink — especially on certain real estate documents. Before booking, ask whoever will receive the document whether they accept a Florida remote online notarization. If they say no, an in-person mobile appointment is the answer instead, and I am glad to do that.

What is Remote Online Notarization?

Remote Online Notarization (RON) lets you complete a notarization entirely over a secure, recorded audio-video session instead of meeting in person. Your identity is verified through a government-issued ID scan and a knowledge-based identity quiz, and I apply my official electronic seal and signature during the live session. The recording is retained as Florida law requires.

Who can use Florida RON

As a Florida Remote Online Notary, I can notarize for signers located anywhere in the US or abroad. The notarization is legally considered to take place in Florida, since that is where I am commissioned.

I must be physically located in Florida during the session. That is a requirement of my commission, not a preference — and it is why the session can be booked from anywhere but never run while I am travelling out of state.

Remote witnesses are more restricted than signers. Where a document needs witnesses, they generally must be United States residents physically located in the US or a US territory at the time of signing. If witnesses matter to your document, raise it when you book.

How it works
