Florida marriage license basics

This is general guidance, not legal advice — always confirm current requirements with your county clerk’s office before your ceremony date.

Wedding officiant FAQs

Are you ordained or licensed to perform marriages in Florida?

Yes. Florida is one of only three states that authorizes notaries public to solemnize marriage as part of their standard commission (F.S. § 741.07). No separate ordination is required. The ceremony must take place in Florida with a valid Florida-issued marriage license.

Do you perform bilingual ceremonies?

Yes. Ceremonies can be delivered in English, Spanish, or a blend of both.

Can you officiate an elopement or courthouse-style wedding?

Absolutely. I can officiate anywhere from a courthouse-style micro-ceremony to a full wedding-day event.

Do we need to bring our own marriage license?

Yes. Couples are responsible for obtaining the Florida marriage license in advance. I’ll guide you on the process and handle the paperwork on the day of the ceremony.

How far do you travel for weddings?

I officiate throughout Tampa Bay. For venues outside the standard service area, reach out for availability and any additional travel fee.

Service area

I officiate throughout the greater Tampa Bay area, including Carrollwood, Westchase, Northdale, Lutz, Land O'Lakes, Wesley Chapel, Citrus Park, Davis Islands, and the surrounding area. Don’t see your venue listed? Reach out — I likely still cover it.

What I cannot do

I cannot issue your marriage license, waive the waiting period, or advise you on your legal status — those are questions for the county clerk. I also cannot draft legal documents or explain their effect, which would be practising law without a licence.
